4th Grade Chapel Duty Descriptions
Usher – stops in office to pick up any bulletins needed for service. Standing inside the back doors, ushers hand bulletins out to students before the service. Ushers also collect bulletins.at the end of the service and return them neatly to the office.
Acolyte – with the help of an adult, the acolyte(s) light the candles behind the altar as directed before the service and extinguish them after the service.
Crucifer – carries the cross to lead the students into chapel at the beginning of the service. At the end of the service, the crucifer carries the cross to lead the servers out of the church.
Reader – reads the lesson assigned for the chapel service.
Psalm Leader – leads the congregation in saying the psalm together.
Lesson Assistant – helps the homilist with the lesson as needed.
Gospel Bearer – carries, holds and replaces the gospel book for the gospel reading (during a service with a Eucharist)
Server – helps set the table for Eucharist, following instructions given by priest or chapel leader.
Prayer Leader – reads leader portion of prayers of the people (during a service with a Eucharist)
Please note that these are basic descriptions. Students should follow instructions given by chapel leaders. Remember that helping to serve in chapel is to enhance the service for all to the glory of God. It is a privilege that may be revoked if not taken seriously.
